Visit to Bangladesh National Herbarium by BUFT Environmental Science Department Students from the Environmental Science Department of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT), Turag, Dhaka, participated in an educational field trip to the Bangladesh National Herbarium in Mirpur, Dhaka on January 8, 2025. Organized by Assistant Professor Biddut Chandra Sarker, the visit focused on the theme “Sustainability through Biodiversity Conservation,” aiming to deepen students’ understanding of plant biodiversity, conservation methods, and their role in fostering sustainability. Dr. Sarder Nasir Uddin, Principal Scientific Officer at the National Herbarium, served as the chief guest, offering an insightful presentation on the institution’s history, significance, and techniques, as well as an overview of Bangladesh’s flora and taxonomy. Dr. Mostofa Kamal Pasha, Retired Professor of Botany at Chittagong University, emphasized the critical link between biodiversity conservation and the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector. Khandakar Kamrul Islam, Scientific Officer, provided detailed insights into herbarium preparation, including sample collection, preservation, and conservation. Representing BUFT, Dr. Mohammad Shohrab Hossain Sarker, Assistant Professor & Head of the Environmental Science Department; Dr. Shahin Hossain, Associate Professor; Biddut Chandra Sarker; and Sadia Taz Oyshi, Lab Instructor, joined the event. Students explored the herbarium museum, examined diverse plant specimens, and collected valuable data for academic research. This visit significantly enhanced their understanding of biodiversity conservation practices and their relevance to sustainable development, particularly within Bangladesh’s RMG industry. MoU Signed Between BUFT and Coppin State University BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) and Coppin State University (CSU), Baltimore, USA, established a transformative partnership on January 12, 2025, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote academic and research collaboration. The MoU, signed by Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at BUFT, and Professor Dr. Jamal Uddin, Founding Director of the Center for Nanotechnology at CSU, establishes a strong foundation for mutual growth in education and innovation. The agreement reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to collaborate on research initiatives, faculty and student exchanges, joint supervision of academic projects, program development, and consultative endeavors. During the signing ceremony, BUFT’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, highlighted the significance of the partnership in advancing the university’s mission of delivering cutting-edge education in apparel, textile, and fashion technology. BUFT Students Lead at the 2024 SDC International Design Competition BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its students at the prestigious 2024 Society of Dyers and Colorists (SDC) International Design Competition, held on October 28, 2024. This internationally recognized event promotes sustainable and socially responsible fashion, gathering top undergraduate talent from universities worldwide to display their innovative designs. BUFT honors the exceptional success of its students: Mijanur Rahaman Mijan, winner from the BFS department; Nayem Ar Rahman Khan, first runner-up from the FDT department; Dorothy Mohosin, second runner-up from BFS; and Sadia Ul Mim, second runner-up from FDT. These accomplishments underscore BUFT’s dedication to fostering creativity, sustainability, and social responsibility in the fashion industry. BUFT Student Wins UCR Half Marathon 3rd Edition

BUFT Student Wins UCR Half Marathon 3rd Edition Tanim Al Jisan, a student at BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT), secured first place in the UCR Half Marathon 3rd Edition at Hatirjheel on December 15, 2024. This marks his first victory in the 21.1 km race, following second and third-place finishes in previous editions. Starting at 5:45 a.m., participants completed three laps around Hatirjheel. Tanimfinished the course in just over 1 hour and 30 minutes. The award ceremony was attended by representatives from the event’s sponsoring organizations and distinguished guests.
